Blessed Christmas for elderly women

The initiative aimed to show support to the elderly by giving back to them.

It was a joyous and unexpected surprise for 30 elderly women from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s Wards 5 and 28 who received Christmas hampers from SM Foundation last Friday.

The foundation’s Sbusiso Makhanya identified the grannies who needed the groceries and joined hands with Bablo Funeral, Sifiso Bhungane and Halfway Ford to deliver the items to their homes.

Makhanya said some gathered at Gamalakhe ZG hall to collect their parcels and those who could not come to the venue had their hampers delivered to them.

“The initiative aimed to show support and give back to the elderly of the community who raised us. We realise that many elderly women depend on pension money which is not enough to buy groceries, and on Christmas every family deserves a special meal, ” he said.

He thanked everyone who contributed and assured that more grannies will benefit from the programme next year.
“I thank the sponsors for making this initiative a success.”

One of the beneficiaries, Molly Nyawose said she was left speechless when she received her Christmas hamper.
“This is such a great initiative and I hope all those who supported SM Foundation is blessed by the Almighty.”
She said her Christmas will indeed be blessed.
