Scottburgh Mardi Gras a hit with visitors

It was a fun-filled day for all.

Scott Street was bustling on December 17, as thousands of people attended the Scottburgh Mardi Gras.

This popular event returned to the town after several years and was a great hit once more.

From the tantalising food stalls, to the creative and unique craft stores…everything was much-needed and so appreciated by locals and holidaymakers.

“As a sponsor from South Coast Lifestyle Events, I am overwhelmed with the attendance of tourists and locals at Scottburgh Mardi Gras 2023,” said organiser Lorna Thomson. “At least 10 000 visitors passed through and my stall holders’ feedback has been very positive.”

A number of stalls had even sold out their items before the end of the day, and many people told Lorna that they would love to have this type of Mardi Gras more often as it benefitted traders and the town folk.

One of the highlights of the day was to see Santa and his young helpers drive through the street in a fancy car led by local majorette performers, and the kids zone was a fan favourite with the little ones. Lorna thanks all who assisted her with the organising of the event, including Colleen Brown and Nibia Canovi and to the Scottburgh High School Leos, banner designer, local ambulance service, security and Saps for their presence and support.

Attendees headed straight to social media after the event to spread news of its success with tons of people requesting an even bigger one in the year to come.

“The future of Scottburgh is looking positive to host more events for 2024,” said Lorna.
