Fond farewell for modern-day Florence Nightingale

Sister Joyce Duduzile Ndlovu's career was marked by receiving numerous accolades at institutional, provincial, and national levels.

In a heart-warming celebration, Port Shepstone Regional Hospital’s management, stakeholders, friends and staff bid a fond farewell to Sister Joyce Duduzile Ndlovu recently.

The celebration marked the peak of a remarkable journey of her service in the Department of Health.
Among the attendees were Advocate Kanki Motsoetsa from the National Prosecuting Authority, Professor Sinegugu Duma from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, General Sethenya Nxamangele from Port Shepstone Saps, Pastor Reggie John from Gate Ministries and musician Noni Muso.

The retirement celebration became a platform for work partners and friends to share their experiences of working alongside Ndlovu.

Her exceptional career was marked by numerous accolades at institutional, provincial, and national levels, consistently recognising her outstanding qualities and unwavering commitment to putting her patients first.

Speakers at the event reflected upon Ndlovu’s career path, commending her as an exemplary employee who raised the service bar for the hospital. Her history of service was vividly recounted, with emphasis on her selflessness, dedication, heroism, and the love she consistently demonstrated in the work she performed, particularly in addressing gender-based violence.

The hospital’s acting CEO, Bigboy Khawula emphasised the importance of recognising and celebrating achievements of a staff member while the individual is still present to receive the accolades.
Ndlovu’s supervisor, Matron Linda Manipersad described her work experience as a tapestry woven with touches of excellence, overtones of wisdom, and resounding successes that have created an enduring positive influence in the hospital, all for the benefit of the community. She expressed that Ndlovu deserves to be recognised as a modern-day Florence Nightingale.

She was wished well for her future endeavours at home, with a suggestion to continue sharing knowledge, perhaps even in the form of writing another book.

The Thuthuzela Care Centre staff expressed their appreciation through heartfelt praise songs. Dr Ndamase, the centre’s clinical head illuminated the crucial role Ndlovu played as a forensic nurse.
Ndlovu thanked everyone for their collective contribution to her journey.
