Ugu ready for season

Ugu's 24-hour call centre operations will continue this season. Emergency number is 08000 92837 or SMS 44751.

A comprehensive readiness plan has been put in place by Ugu District Municipality to ensure a smooth holiday season.

Zimbini Mpurwana acting spokesperson said this plan pertains to the provision of water and sanitation services.
She said a Joint Operations Committee set up by management meets regularly to assess, report and monitor the state of operations and progress made on reported water and sanitation cases received.

“Additional resources such as human resources, water tankers, vehicles and standby disaster teams with specialised vehicles have been added to beef up our response times to emergencies and isolated cases that may arise during this period as efficiently as possible.”

Mpurwana said they are expecting high-water usage on their systems during this period as they welcome more holidaymakers, as a result they remain on high alert, should any supply interruptions occur, alternative measures will be employed immediately.

“We urge residents and visitors to refrain from depositing fat and grease into the water drains, as this clogs up and causes havoc in our drainage systems and waste water treatment works.”

Ugu’s 24-hour call centre operations will continue this season. Emergency number is 08000 92837 or SMS 44751.
