Retired education officials thanked

Director Mfundi Sibiya said retired officials and principals have played a big role in the district.

The Department of Education in the Ugu district held a prayer day and thanksgiving for retired teachers and officials at Port Shepstone High last Thursday.
Mfundi Sibiya, the director of the district’s Department of Education said it was to pray and thank God for them.

“We also want to thank the department for the way they have supported us as workers, as well as assistance given to school principals.”
He said the department has worked hand in hand with the community and that has helped them, and it is important for them to say thank you.
He said the retired officials and principals have played a big role.

“They laid a very strong foundation for where we are today. In the matric results, we have placed first in the province for the past five years and we are number eight in the country.”
Sibiya said they recently won R100 000 from the national department because of the position they are holding as a district.
Now retired, Dr Siyabonga Mpofana was one of the first young principals in the district
“I majored in mathematics and statistics and was therefore moved to there province where I was in charge of the subject.”

He said after the new government was elected he moved back to the district and worked at the department.
Besides the retired teachers and principals who were cheered and ululated as they entered the hall, principals from various schools, teachers, member of the legislature Mtomuhle Khawula and MEC Peggy Nkonyeni also attended.
