Public safety HOD leaves RNM

Sibusiso Nzimande started as HOD for Community Services when it was still Hibiscus Coast Municipality in 2013.

The HOD for Public Safety at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM), Sibusiso Nzimande has left.
According to municipal spokesperson Simon April, Nzimande’s contract has come to an end.
“Nzimande’s contract ended on October 31, 2023 and the council is still in the process of filling the vacancy.”

A farewell function was held for him at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre last Thursday.
Nzimande started as HOD for Community Services under Hibiscus Coast Municipality in 2013.
After the amalgamation of the two municipalities, he then took up the post of HOD for Public Safety for law enforcement, fire and disaster, public transport and motor vehicle licensing.
Nzimande said some of his career highlights are changing some bylaws and creating new ones to accommodate every area under RNM.

The manager of Customer Care and Stakeholders Relations, Xolani Dlangalala saying a few words at the farewell function.

“It was not an easy task to change bylaws, to make every person happy.”
He said another highlight was working with Saps, to try and find a solution to taxi-related issues.
“I remember on one occasion where General Sethenya Nxamangela and I had to sit down and find solutions to help the taxis. I would get threatening calls but we managed to get through all that.”

He said another difficult time was during the July 2021 unrest when everything was upside down and people lived in fear, and again with the Saps they had to find solutions.
Nzimande said his overall experience at RNM was amazing and he learned a lot.
He thanked the former mayor Cynthia Mqwebu and former municipal manager Max Mbili for giving him the opportunity.
