Hip hop artist is a force to be reckoned with

Lwandle Solwazi believes that building a career in the music industry, becoming a clothing brand owner and furthering his education will help him avoid the unemployment bracket.

Lwandle Solwazi (19) from Amahlongwa Mission is a talented entrepreneur and budding hip hop artist trying to make his mark on the South Coast.

He said that the journey of becoming an established artist and now brand designer has not been an easy one, but he is trying his best to make it work.

Lwandle’s stage name is Tornado which is exactly how he describes himself – a real force to be reckoned with in this tough world.

“I have performed in a few places to date, one of which was at Eyadini Lounge, but my performances were never to generate an income. I am just trying to get as much exposure as possible right now.”
Lwandle also plans on attending a TVET college next year to equip himself for the working world. He acknowledges that the country’s unemployment rate is high, and believes that allowing himself to build a career in the music industry, becoming a clothing brand owner and furthering his education will help him avoid the unemployment bracket.

“When I become a success one day, I’ll always remember my local people and how I had many supporters such as my dear friends Ryan Varden and Niksha Sevnaran who always tried to help me out whenever they could,” he said.

The youngster’s recently launched clothing brand created with business partner Nduduzo Mntambo is also doing well.

“We started this brand because we wanted to make some positive changes in streetwear,” explained Lwandle.
The name for the brand was inspired by South African hip hop artists Nasty C and Emtee’s song ‘Born To Win’. As a hip hop artist himself, Lwandle felt a deep connection to the song and kept those words close to his heart in all that he ventured into.

When he is not busy with the brand or his music, he enjoys playing soccer and has begun cosplaying on the sideline for a local entertainment agency.

“I have my hands full as young guy, but I am coping and grateful for all the love and support I have received so far.”
