He said that these vehicles are to add to the fleet that was bought in May this year, to replace the 51 vehicles that were set alight at the Ugu Fresh Produce Market by protesters during the July 2021 unrest.

“Our vehicles were burnt before and we will not allow that to happen again. The municipality along with the police will deal with them decisively.”

Mqadi said they cannot allow people to continue burning the government’s property and then no-one is arrested.

“The new vehicles will help our plumbers to get quickly to call outs to conduct repairs, so that people have water.
He said that most of the new vehicles will be working on the northern side, which is Umdoni and some will be central based which is Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and Umuziwabantu.

“The last batch was received by the southern side. The vehicles will be used for sanitation, water and security”
He said that the vehicles cost R9.6 million.

Mqadi said if community members spot these vehicles and suspect that they are not being used for what they are bought for, then they must report it to the municipality.
