Umdoni Municipality’s acting mayor Clr Mthandeni Mbutho is all smiles at the mayoral roadblock in Renishaw.

He was joined by members of Scottburgh Saps, Public Order Policing, Sassa, Department of Transport, Department of Health and Department of Home Affairs among others.

While Mbutho conversed with the holidaymakers, vehicles were inspected for road compliance and safety by Saps and Umdoni Traffic Department.

Several representatives from the various departments also handed out educational pamphlets describing the work that they do for the community.

“Our responsibility as the different organs of state is to ensure we give people an abundance of information regarding services available to them under Umdoni,” said Mbutho.

“Over and above that, this exercise is aimed at sensitising motorists and passengers on the importance of safety and conducting themselves in a responsible manner during the festive season.”

Motorists were also encouraged to explore and enjoy all leisure facilities within Umdoni and the beautiful beaches such as Scottburgh, Preston, Rocky Bay and Pennington.

Sergeant Christopher Mahlawe interacts with taxi passengers at the roadblock.

The town also has numerous restaurants to try out, a Saturday flea market every week, the ever-popular and world renowned Crocworld Conservation Centre and so much more.

One of the big upcoming attractions which is sure to help increase the footprint in the Umdoni area and please locals and holidaymakers alike, is the Scottburgh Mardi Gras scheduled for December 17 in Scott Street. The event will be on from 09:00 and is a Lions Club fundraiser. The public can expect a float parade, quality stalls, food, beer garden, display court, live entertainment, kids zone and competitions.

The Umdoni community is wished well this festive season.
