Sizzling summer awaits holidaymakers

There are 21 tidal pools that can be found along the South Coast, providing bathers with protected conditions throughout the year.

The South Coast has always been a popular holiday destination for many, especially during December.

The area boasts stunning beaches, great weather and there are always loads of activities and events to keep one entertained.

“Our tourism establishments are geared up and ready to welcome our many holiday visitors to the KZN South Coast this festive season,” said Phelisa Mangcu, CEO of South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE).

Scottburgh, in particular, always makes for a great stop for holidaymakers. Its beach is one of the handful of mid-South Coast beaches that has achieved a Blue Flag Pilot status for 2023/2024. The other beaches being Pennington, Rocky Bay, Preston and Mtwalume.

There are 21 tidal pools that can be found along the South Coast, providing bathers with protected conditions throughout the year. This also happens to be another KZN record for the highest number of tidal pools in a province.

The mid-South Coast promotes ocean conversation. There is the Aliwal Shoal Marine Protected Area. Aliwal Shoal is also a Hope Spot which is a critical space identified by NPO, Mission Blue, to create awareness about ocean issues.

There are many dive sites, spots for snorkelling, surfing, camping and fishing. The 120-kilometre coastal stretch from Scottburgh to Port Edward has several incredible fishing spots for every level of angler, no matter the skill or budget.

The South Coast also has a great subtropical climate making it one of the best places to be this summer.

Fishermen have their fingers crossed for tight lines this festive season.
