Cancer patient Loraine needs support

Her daughter, Dominique, said her mother has cancer of the ovaries and womb.

Loraine Bruigom (61), who has played a pivotal role in the community in various way, has been diagnosed with cancer.

She is well known for her role in organising local car boot markets, as well as being active in Ramsgate Tidy Towns and on community WhatsApp groups.
Now Loraine needs the community’s help.

About eight weeks ago, she began feeling uncomfortable and noticed a swollen abdomen.
A doctor’s ultrasound revealed a large mass, confirmed by a CT scan.

Her daughter, Dominique, said her mother has cancer of the ovaries and womb.
She is booked to see the oncologists at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Durban on January 16, where a treatment plan will be formulated which will likely include surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Dominique said that this sudden illness – and lack of medical aid – have depleted the family’s savings, with more costs anticipated.

“My mom goes to Port Shepstone Regional Hospital regularly to get the fluid around the mass drained. The trips to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Durban for treatment in January are going to be very expensive as she is unable to take public transport in her current condition.”

“We didn’t realise the bills would escalate so quickly, and would be ongoing,” she said.

A BackaBuddy campaign has been formed and the community is urged to assist Loraine in raising funds to help her obtain the treatment she desperately requires.
