Meals on wheels driven by faith

A Christmas music concert will be hosted on December 7 to raise funds for the centre.

The Golden Singers will be hosting a Christmas music concert to raise funds for Anerley Service Centre Meals on Wheels on Thursday, December 7 at 09:30.

Everyone is invited. Entrance is free but all donations go towards the non-profit organisation.

The incredible group of singers are proof that one is never too old to make a difference. Some members are 80 years old and older, while lovely Marie Fourie is a remarkable 93-years-old.

Cheryl Oldfield, who has been running the organisation for the last 23 years is concerned about the future of the charity-based community service that depends on donations to exist.

Concerned about the future of Meals on Wheels is Cheryl Oldfield.

“Faith is what is keeping Anerley Service Centre Meals on Wheels running the old fashioned way,” said Cheryl.
They deliver 2 000 meals (at a cost of R45 per meal) a month to the senior citizens living between Pumula and Port Shepstone, three times a week.

Oldfield explained that it’s not cost-effective to extend the area they deliver to due to the price of petrol.

“During Covid-19 we were given donations towards food, but that has dried up and everybody is struggling nowadays,” said Cheryl.
