Ugu plans to fix Mpenjati sewage problem
The long term plan is a total plant refurbishment/overhaul during the 2024/25 financial year.
Ugu District Municipality is in the process of rectifying the malfunction of one of Mpenjati‘s pump station aerator systems which has already been taken out for refurbishment.
Municipal spokesperson France Zama said this is expected be delivered by December 15.
However as a short-term intervention, the municipality has plans to implement the following:
1. Procurement of vacuum tanker services to minimise any possible overflows in the pump station while the plant is offline during the clarifier desludging which should have taken place last week (November 17).
2. Desludging of clarifier by November 25.
3. Repairing of aerator gearbox by December 15.
