March to highlight people’s plight in Gaza

Religious organisations, NGOs and political formations will participate in what is expected to be a rally showing local support and calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza.

The Palestine Solidarity Alliance (PSA) will be holding a mass march in unity with the people of Palestine and Gaza in Port Shepstone on Saturday, November 25.

The march will start at the Old Dick King Car Park near Shoprite in Port Shepstone at 10:30 and will proceed to the Civic Centre or St Martins De Porres Sports Grounds, depending on the size of the march.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Port Shepstone Human Rights Centre (PSHRC) activist, Selvan Chetty said the march is a response to calls from hundreds of local citizens, various organisations and individuals who want to add their voices for peace in Palestine.

He said an invitation had been sent to the grandson of Nelson Mandela, Mandla Mandela to address the people as a guest of honour.

Chetty said the PSHRC is calling on all peace-loving people of the South Coast to join hands, to collectively express their concern for the ongoing violation of human rights in Gaza.

“We need to make sure that as peace-loving South Africans, we voice our concerns. We are calling on everyone who believes in peace and justice to take a stand with us,” Chetty concluded.
