Experience the vibrant sights of Gamalakhe

Memories were captured via photographs of the beautiful scenery of Gamalakhe, Umjika River and Uvongo River.

Take a sho’t left for a Gamalakhe township experience which includes a 7km hiking trial, Kasified escape and more.
At a recent launch, the media and other invited guests enjoyed immersing themselves in the vibrant sights and sounds of Gamalakhe.
The tour started with a prayer and then a hike.

Mbongeni Mthembu of Monate Outdoor Activities took the group through rocky bushes, muddy paths, hills and rivers.

Memories were captured via photographs of the beautiful scenery of Gamalakhe, Umjika River and Uvongo River.
The group took a break and swam in the cool waters of Uvongo River.

A visit to Tin Town, the oldest part of the township followed. Here, Mama Smangele Memela, who was forcibly removed from her home in Port Shepstone town centre in 1968 aged just 12, still resides.
An emotional Memala explained how her family ended up in Gamalakhe during apartheid. She said that she does not like telling the story because it brings back horrible memories.

The tour continued with Kasified Experience which has been developed to showcase car spinning shows, outdoor cinema, quad biking, paintball and more.

The last stop was for a mouthwatering lunch at Sbucie’s Kitchen.

Visitors enjoyed delicious shisanyama and other local favourites such as township kotas, burgers, chicken wings and chips.
