New board members for tourism body

According to the Mayor, Sikhumbuzo Zero Mqadi, the induction was to ensure that the board of directors attain a level of understanding of the SCTIE operations.

In an effort to ensure the newly appointed board members of the South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) are able to ‘hit the ground running’, Ugu District Municipality recently hosted an induction workshop at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.

According to the Mayor, Sikhumbuzo Zero Mqadi, the induction was to ensure that the board of directors attain a level of understanding of the SCTIE operations, the industry and environment it exists in as well as being able to farmiliarise themselves with their responsibilities to maximise their contribution towards economic development and investments in the district.

“It is imperative that you are able to think strategically in order to improve the economy of the South Coast and to strive to create new developments that not only seek to elevate the district, but to ensure the very high unemployment rate of ordinary members in the district are dealt with, says Mqadi”

The improvement in rural tourism was also a topic delved deeply into during the induction, as well as several developments happening in the district including the Intermodal facility at the Port Shepstone Taxi Rank set to employ hundreds of people.

Acting Municipal Manager Vela Mazibuko said the SCTIE is a municipal entity established by Ugu for the purposes of promotion of economic development as well as the facilitation of private and public investments.

“The entity is meant to ensure the implementation of sustainable and viable Local Economic Development (LED) projects in the district. As such, all board members are expected to play a pivotal role to ensure the above is realised,” says Mazibuko.
