New York beckons Margate model

Ayanda Zwalo was selected at The International ARTS Talent Showcase hosted at The Venue in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg earlier this month.

Margate model, Ayanda Zwalo (32) will be rubbing shoulders with the who’s who of the modelling industry at New York City’s International Modelling and Talent Association Convention in 2024.

The convention will take place from July 8 to 10, 2024 and will be attended by over 300 modelling, acting, singing, songwriting and dancing professionals who will host competitions and present opportunities for fashion and talent agents, personal managers, casting directors, network representatives and music producers, to scout for new models, actors, singers and dancers to work in the fashion and entertainment industries.

Zwalo, a matriculant of South Coast Academy is a clothing and commercial model and says he is excited as he has always dreamt of such an opportunity.

He was selected to be part of the convention at the International ARTS Talent Showcase hosted at The Venue in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg earlier this month.

“I am very excited, all thanks to Darion Langenhoven, the owner of Novasky Solutions who has groomed my modelling career, introducing me to such a platform, “said Zwalo.

He said his journey in professional modelling started three years ago, not long after the Covid-19 pandemic, and he is inspired by what’s out there waiting for him if he doesn’t give up.
Zwalo said being from a small town is a challenge and finding consistent work for male models is hard.

“It’s very difficult to keep going and training when it seems like nothing is coming your way. It can be very discouraging at times,” he added.

“All those who fought through adversity to achieve their dreams are always moving forward, no matter what. I landed this opportunity via an online audition on the 33andme Instagram page. I entered and was selected. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and could turn my dreams into reality.”

Zwalo said he can’t wait to travel to New York, to meet face-to-face with industry professionals and participants and to hear about some of the most prestigious institutions in the world, as well as international education opportunities.

“I don’t know how I will raise the funds to travel, but I know I will secure a contract once I get there,” he concluded.

Margate model Ayanda Zwalo is preparing for a stint in New York.
