Hibiscus Kennel Club was honoured to be represented by one of its own members at the recent Agility World Championships in the Czech Republic.
Tanya Engelbrecht and her five year old Shetland sheepdog, Stellar, recently took part and certainly did themselves proud.
They initially attended a two-day open show in Prague to get used to the indoor astro turf and environment.
Great fun and laughs was had by the entire South African team, consisting of 10 women and 12 dogs.
They then went to Liberec, where the champs were held in a huge, indoor arena.
“Lots of excitement and nerves was felt by us all as the first day included vet checks, warm-up runs and the opening ceremony,” said Tanya.
They then competed over the next five days, running courses set by four international judges, which tested them all to the maximum.
Stellar took everything (the indoor arena, astro surface, hotels, flights, buses, elevators and 700 other dogs) in her stride.
“Nothing put this little girl off her stride. We ran our hearts out and tried our best. This was definitely a dream come true and I was so proud to represent South Africa.”
* In other kennel club news, chairperson Elsie Pretorius is welcomed back after her trip, with long lay overs, to Australia to visit her sister.
Unfortunately, she arrived home ill and exhausted and her recovery has been slow, but members are pleased to have her back in the saddle, doing what she does best.
Preparations are under way for the championship show at the Port Shepstone borough grounds on November 11 and 12.
The club is situated at the borough grounds in Quarry Road. Club training takes place on Saturdays, starting at 14:00.
