Roses for women motorists at roadblock

The Women's Day roadblock was predominantly manned by female officers.

Motorists who were stopped at a roadblock carried out by Port Shepstone Saps and their female counterparts from the Road Traffic Inspectorate felt appreciated on Women’s Day recently, after they received roses from the authorities.

Port Shepstone Saps spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said: “While roadblocks and stop and search operations are held on a regular basis, this roadblock was predominantly manned by our female officers. The purpose of the roadblock was to reinforce the fact that a large portion of law enforcement are women who are just as capable of enforcing the law.”

Mpinge added that the roadblock was also to signify the celebration of Women’s Day which is why roses were handed out to women motorists.

“For many women this was a welcome surprise, as they were not expecting it,” he added.

He said the presence of law enforcement on the roads is a deterrent to errant drivers and defaulters in terms of traffic laws. On the same day a number of motorists were fined for driving without a licence, valid licence disc and overloading.
