Ann shines at kennel club competition

Winners received beautiful trophies and wonderful sponsorship.

Ann Shaw and her three border collies were the standouts for Hibiscus Kennel Club, which hosted the KZN Championships on the Port Shepstone borough field last Saturday.

Shenzi achieved third place in contact agility. KK was second in novice contact and Mandu first contact. Shenzi is Ann`s steady dog, KK loves life and is a free spirit and Mandu is the wild card. He was not expected to ever compete and Ann took a chance and its paid off.

Ann goes out on to the agility course every weekend and reacts in the same way whether Shenzi has a clear round or KK misses a hurdle and destroys an otherwise perfect round or whether she is experiencing severe back pain. Her reaction to her dogs never changes. May that back give you a few more good years.

It was all over by 13:30 allowing the club members to continue with their usual training schedule.
The following day dawned sunny but chilly due to the sneaky wind, but ideal weather nonetheless for agility dogs and their handlers.

For Hibiscus Kennel Club it was a case of another Sunday, another agility competition, and this one incorporated the Natal Agility League, so the courses were somewhat difficult for the less experienced dogs but then the handlers are always up to a challenge.
Quinton Nortje, who travelled some distance with his wife Mel, judged all three disciplines. Bev Hourquebie measured the co-ordinates, which in itself is a task. Montego was thanked for the show.

Congratulations to all those who received prizes, and to those who did not, but were true sportswomen and always come off the course with smiles on their faces and praise for their dogs.

* If you would like to spend some quality time with your dog and learn a few training skills, visit members at the Port Shepstone borough field on Saturdays at 13:30 for 14:00. Competitions are optional and entirely up to individual. The club teaches social obedience, agility and hoopers.
