‘No sweat’ as women raise funds for needy

Funds were raised for District 49 Home of Safety and Naidooville Primary School.

More than 100 women supported a fun-filled Zumba Fit morning fundraiser at the Blue Marlin Hotel in Scottburgh on Women’s Day last week.

This annual event hosted by Ultimate Dance Fitness (UDF) was initiated to raise funds for those in need, with this year’s beneficiaries being District 49 Home of Safety and Naidooville Primary School in Craigieburn.

The event kicked off with an exciting warm up session to get everyone pumped up for the main event. This was followed by two guest speakers, Robert Ramiah the principal of Naidooville Primary and Pravashnie Thevan, the chairperson of District 49. “Both speakers gave an informative talk on children who are abused, neglected, homeless, orphaned and as a result without any education,” explained Shereen Paul, licenced Zumba instructor of UDF.

Pravashnie Thevan, the chairperson of District 49 talks about the work done at District 49 Home of Safety.

“Naidooville Primary works closely with District 49, to help support these children and to provide an education for them.”

The home of safety houses approximately 40 children at any given time, and these facilities need all the help they can get, to support and care for these children.

Paul thereafter led her exuberant Zumba session which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The women were also given a self defence demonstration by Sergeant Christopher Mahlawhe of Scottburgh Saps.

“It was a successful fundraising event and UDF thanks all the amazing sponsors who so graciously and cheerfully sponsored towards this event, with a special thank you to our main sponsor Imraan Hamid, regional director of Shoprite,” added Paul.

“My ladies and I work really hard every year to support our community and I’m so proud of them.”
All funds raised will be shared between the two beneficiaries.
