Jersey donation to schools

About 140 school jerseys were handed over to the Ugu District's Department of Eduation.

Two schools under Ugu District’s Department of Education (DoE) recently received a generous donation of school jerseys from the Ugu Saps Board and the Port Shepstone Human Rights Centre.

The handover was an initiative to commemorate Women’s Month, while highlighting the need to create awareness on the importance of supporting a girl child.

Selvan Chetty, director of the Port Shepstone Human Rights Centre said children’s lives are often jeopardised, growing up in the poorest communities.

Chetty said after hosting a youth programme for young leaders under the Saps brand, they realised the need to give back to the communities and schools who raise South Africa’s future leaders.

“About 140 school jerseys were handed over to the Ugu District’s DoE together with much needed sanitary pads for the young women from both schools. We are grateful to the local education department for accepting our donation and agreeing to coordinate the distribution,” said Chetty.

The jerseys were accepted by the district director of DoE in Ugu, Mfundi Sibisi and school inspector, Ronald Wood and principal of one of the schools, Reginald Machi from Kubhudlu Primary School in Harding.
