New leader at helm of Rotary Club of Port Shepstone

President Kanaya Maharaj said to him and many millions around the world, Rotary means 'service above self'.

July is the month of new beginnings for the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone.
The club house on the shores of Umtentweni Beach was upgraded recently. The members officially opened the club house, and hosted an induction dinner for their newly elected club president, Kanaya Maharaj, who took over the reigns from outgoing president Frank Vincent.

Shamin Maharaj of Rotary Port Shepstone said: “We are grateful to all sponsors, Rotarians and individuals who worked tirelessly to see this project to fruition within such time constraint to host our annual induction and awards ceremony at the club house.”

Outgoing President Frank Vincent gives a speech and reflects on the highlights of 2022/2023.

The newly inaugurated president, Kanaya Maharaj said to him and many millions around the world, Rotary means ‘service above self’.

Maharaj joined Rotary in 2021 and says he has seen the good deeds done by Rotarians since joining. “Good people come together for the common benefit of their fellow humans.”

Commenting on being chosen as the new president, Maharaj said: “Having been chosen to lead Rotary Port Shepstone is a great honour. Our past presidents have endeavoured to elevate the Rotary flag a little more year on year. I hope that I, together with a dynamic team, will do the same and more.”

Rotarians Geoff and Vanessa Howard-Tripp officially open the upgraded club house.

“I hope to keep this flame of hope and help burning even brighter through my year of reign as president. I would like to appeal to all the members of the public to help Rotarians wherever you may be, as our intentions are pure and out of love,” he concluded.
