Bowlers 4 Babies reflect on fruitful decade

Bowlers 4 Babies recently celebrated 10 years of community work on the South Coast. They enjoyed a special tea party at Margate Bowling Club to thank all the women who regularly knit and sew for them.

In its 10 years of existence, Bowlers 4 Babies has given baby clothes to Port Shepstone Regional Hospital, Murchison Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital in Flagstaff, creches in Masinenge and Gcilima, clinics in Shelly Beach, Margate and Port Edward, child welfare, as well as many private individuals.

“We have made 93 visits to the maternity ward at Murchison Hospital and given out 3 855 baby packs to new mothers,” said founder Wendy Walker.

“This community outreach would not be possible without the faithful, continued support of our local knitters, as well as private overseas knitters. The local churches and some private individuals have also donated clothing and finances to us.”

She said that, at present, Bowlers 4 Babies endeavours to distribute 46 baby packs every month to Murchison Hospital, and will also respond to any private request.
