Filters ensure clean drinking water for schools

The filters have been tested and approved by the World Health Organisation.

In the spirit of Mandela Mandela Day on Tuesday last week, Ignite Revolution fitted water filters at Murchison Primary and St Martin De Porres schools.

The organisation’s, Jessica Naicker said: “Drinking water is a huge problem in schools and with ongoing water issues in our district many learners fall ill as a result of drinking dirty or contaminated water. The schools have to rely on rain harvesting, rivers or boreholes to fill their water tanks. These are not safe and free of contaminants. Ultimately our goal is to give every school this phenomenal versatile filter that’s durable, easy to use, low maintenance and highly effective, so that they have access to clean, safe drinking water for decades to come.

On telling learners about the filter, Naicker said they were super excited and immediately drank the water, saying that they could taste the difference.

The filters fitted are locally manufactured and have been tested and approved by the World Health Organisation.
She thanked KDS Water and Classic Engineering for the donation of the filters.

“We are looking for more businesses to partner with us to purchase filters so more schools can benefit”.
Anyone willing to partner with Ignite can contact them on 078 6514574.

Murchison Primary’s Grade 1 learner Daniel Nyawose is ready to test the water filter. Looking on is Ignite Revolution’s Anton Meyer.
