Facelift for women’s shelter

Syamthanda Shelter provides accommodation for abused women and children for three months, also offering counselling services.

Syamthanda Shelter, a safehouse for abused women and children in KwaXolo, Gcilima was revamped in commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day on Tuesday last week.
The founders of the shelter were excited to see the leadership of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) together with officials from Njilo Consulting visit them.

The team spent their 67 minutes painting some of the rooms, fixing door handles, repairing electrical plugs, hanging new curtains and also planted vegetables and trees.
The shelter’s, Gloria Nkonyeni said they provide accommodation for victims of abuse for three months, also offering counselling services.

Nkonyeni said she was happy to see the officials helping out. They also donated furniture and groceries which was appreciated.

“We are grateful to RNM as they have always been supportive. Today our shelter looks beautiful and clean, all thanks to them.”
