Giving back to nature for Mandela Day

Khanya Hospice decided to drop the nursing apparatus and get down and dirty, beautifying their garden for 67 minutes.

In celebration of the life and legacy of former president Nelson Mandela on Mandela Day this week (July 18), Umkomaas‘s Khanya Hospice decided to drop the nursing apparatus and get down and dirty, beautifying their garden for 67 minutes.

This day is a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities. The hospice staff decided that giving the garden a new look at their hospice house will bring about positivity and gives them a sense of pride.

CEO of Khanya Hospice, Neil McDonald said that doing activities such as this are relaxing for the staff and shows that they give back not just to the community through their free nursing care, but also to the environment.
Hospice offers free palliative nursing care to cancer, HIV/Aids and TB patients on a daily basis. Due to the intense line of work, taking part in something like this on Mandela Day has helped many emotionally de-stress.
