Two dead and many injured in accident in Port Edward on R61

Glen Preston of Med-Evac commended the quick response and professionalism demonstrated by all the emergency services on scene.

An incident occurred in Port Edward resulting in the loss of lives and several injuries last night at about 18:40.
The incident unfolded when a pedestrian was fatally injured at the scene.
A secondary collision occurred involving a LDV and a Saps vehicle which was transporting individuals to a facility in Port Shepstone.
Glen Preston of Med-Evac Ambulance Service said two individuals have lost their lives, additionally, two others are in critical condition and another two people sustained serious injuries, while the remaining victims suffered from moderate to minor injuries.

All patients were treated on scene before being transported by various emergency services.
A specialised Netcare 911 helicopter ambulance, with a team of highly skilled emergency care practitioners, was activated by Med-Evac Ambulance Services to transport a person to a high care medical facility.
Preston said they commend the quick response and professionalism demonstrated by all the emergency services on scene.
“They urge all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations, ensuring the safety of themselves and others,” he added.
A police report is awaited.
