Car bursts into flames

The cause of the fire is unknown.

A fire engulfed a vehicle in Murchison last Saturday.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesperson, Simon April said their emergency control room immediately dispatched a fire services team at 23:22.

On arrival the team found a hatchback vehicle which was seemingly travelling towards Paddock completely burnt out, and the firefighters could only dampen down smouldering debris.
April said that according to the driver, he saw a smoke coming out from the bonnet while driving, and he immediately stopped and on opening the bonnet saw flames coming from the engine.

“He together with other occupants in the vehicle managed to escape unharmed, however they could not immediately call for help due to poor cellphone signal, and they could only watch as flames engulfed the entire vehicle,” said April.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
April said said that while only specific vehicles are required by law to have fire extinguishers, it is highly recommended that all vehicles be equipped with such to deal with unforeseen circumstances like this.
