Paddock link to Durban shootout with police

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) have been summoned to the scene for further investigations.

Two men who were suspected of an armed robbery of a courier vehicle were fatally wounded during a shootout with police at Newlands East earlier today (Wednesday, May 24).

Police responded to an incident in which a courier vehicle was robbed along the N2 freeway in Paddock in the early hours of Wednesday.

The thieves stole electronic devises among other items.

Investigations led police to Newlands East where three robbers were found offloading their loot.

Police spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker said the suspects ignored police’s instructions to surrender, opened fire at police and a shoot-out ensued.

After the shootout, the two men were found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The third person was arrested and two firearms were recovered at the scene.
