Bad weather: Motorists urged to drive carefully as heavy rain causes traffic delays and accidents

With traffic lights intersections down motorists are asked to treat them as four-way stop.

The unexpected rain overnight has caused traffic delays and in some areas, even accidents.

An accident at Oslo Beach was reported, causing major traffic delays earlier today.

A truck jack-knifed on the P200 (Izotsha) this morning, with traffic jammed up.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution as traffic lights may be down due to loadshedding, and there is a lot of water on the roads, especially on bridges.

The South African Weather Service released a statement yesterday (Sunday) warning the Ray Nkonyeni, Umdoni and Umzumbe areas of disruptive rainfall which may lead to localised flooding of settlements, low-lying roads and bridges.

“Significant amounts of rainfall is expected over these areas, with more than 50mm in places.”

Avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles.
