CPF informs seniors on crime awareness

It was mentioned that areas of concern included shopping malls and centres.

Crime Prevention together with Oslo Beach CPF, Marburg CPF and the Youth Desk visited the Mbango Valley Association last week.

The team was welcomed by the general manager, Shirley Sterling. Yusuf Moosa from Oslo Beach CPF opened the awareness by talking about the CPF and its role in the area. He also touched on how the CPF can help senior citizens in terms of safety awareness.

A suggestion of holding meetings at the Mbango Valley Association was also put forward. The senior citizens were well informed and happy that there are people in the area helping out with safety and security of the community.

Fathima Moosa touched on the scams going around in Port Shepstone and made them aware of different kinds of crimes. She touched on cyber crime and how technology can make them a victim of cyber crime.

Areas of concern are the shopping malls and centres. Times of crimes are during month-end and pension days.
Thabo Maphumulo touched on youth and how they can help out with crime prevention.

Constable Ziningi Khena spoke about how Saps can help with crime prevention and the number of sectors Port Shepstone Saps is in charge of. She also gave an indication of the importance of opening a case and what to do in case of an emergency. She advised senior citizens to be cautious and vigilant in pubic places.

Wolf Security was invited by Mbango Valley Association and is the official security company for the village.
Crime Prevention together with the CPF and the Youth Desk are helping to create awareness in all areas of Port Shepstone.

A programme is created on a weekly basis and each area is on the list. Schools in all areas are visited and awareness programmes are set up to help students with drugs, teenage pregnancies, bullying, cyber crime and all other crime-related activities.
