Uncleared rubble a danger to learners

The rubble has also blocked parking for parents who are dropping and picking up their children in front of RA Engar Primary School.

Shoddy work done by Ugu District Municipality employees is now a danger to learners and motorists driving to RA Engar Primary School.

According to Ward 19 councillor, Ajith Rajaram, Ugu employees were called to repair a water leak outside the school, a week before the Easter break, where they dug trenches and left the rubble on the road.

Rajaram said when the learners returned to school, the rubble was still not cleared.

“I received a call from the principal requesting that I address the matter with the municipality as children will get hurt if they trip and fall on the rubble. The rubble has also blocked parking for parents who are dropping and picking up their children in the mornings and in the afternoons.
The councillor said this is a call for concern as the road gets busy.

“Photographs of the problem were sent to Ugu to clear the rubble and cover the trenches, however, no response was received. This is an ongoing problem, wherever they undertake repairs they do not complete the job, they always leave rubble for someone else to clear. It is unacceptable,” Rajaram added.

He said as the councillor, residents demand answers from him as to why the road was left in that state, and if Ugu doesn’t respond he will have no answers.
