Educator retires after 38-year career

He was dedicated to his task, sincere, able to remain calm under pressure, and never yielded to anger.

Prabin Mahadawu, an educator at Marburg Primary school announced his retirement plans last year, which became a reality last Wednesday.
He served 38 years in the teaching profession, of which 28 years were spent at Marburg.

He was the Foundation Phase departmental head for 18 years. “The image we all have of him, is one of a quiet, unassuming and a hardworking educator who was able to assist in many tasks. He was always humble and respected all. His willingness to do things without a complaint will be remembered. He was dedicated to his task, sincere, able to remain calm under pressure, and never yielded to anger,” said the school in a statement.

He was not only able to improve results in all subjects but helped create a conducive learning environment for learners. His passion to the teaching profession is appreciated.

He taught mainly Mathematics. However, he played a pivotal role in the school management team and executed all his tasks diligently, especially in the timetable committee and leading the Foundation Phase department.

Besides being a hardworking educator, he was good at managing sporting events. He co-ordinated the annual fun walk and assisted with athletics. He loved cricket and co-ordinated mini cricket at school.

He was also in charge of textbook and stationery distribution.

The Marburg community thanks Mahadawu for his vast contribution, not only to the academic life of learners who were in his care, but for all other aspects of school-life, where he was generous with his time and dedication.

The staff, school governing body members, learners and parents bid farewell to Mahadawu. The Department of Education also wishes him all the best during his retirement and for the many years of dedication and sacrifice of time he has made in the development of learners.

May God bless him with good health and strength to enjoy the restful life that lies ahead. His contribution to the lives of children will always be remembered.
