Mid South Coast Mail founder dies

Brian Joubert was a well-known and respected member of the community.

The founder of the Mid South Coast Mail newspaper, Brian Joubert (84) died recently.

He started the newspaper in 1985, after he moved from Johannesburg with his wife Vanessa and their four teenage children.

Brian will be fondly remembered for his contribution to Scottburgh and surrounding areas promoting the good news in the community, and creating a valuable record of events as they unfolded.

“Brian made quite a contribution to our local community by launching the Mail. He also published several anthologies from local poets,” said former editor and owner, Heather Butler.

Brian also owned the mini golf and supertube on Scottburgh beachfront providing endless hours of fun for local children and holidaymakers.

“He was a jovial person with a positive outlook and found joy in celebrating the achievements of the area and promoting local businesses. As a result, he was a well loved and respected member of the community,” said his daughter Yvette Hickman.

He spent almost three years with his family in Australia and the last five months with his family in the Cape. Brian lives on in his family of four children, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

His family will be having a memorial service online so that all his family, including grandchildren and great grandchildren overseas, can celebrate his life. In the near future they will gather on Scottburgh beach to scatter his ashes in the ocean that he dearly loved.
