Umdoni retains unqualified audit opinion status

The mayor welcomed the auditor general's report.

Umdoni Municipality‘s 2021/22 financial year under review has retained a status of an Unqualified Audit Opinion.

“The unqualified audit status was obtained with matters of emphasis which include restatement of corresponding figures and debt impairment,” said Umdoni communications manager, Sphelele Cele.

Mayor Sibongile Khathi welcomed the auditor general’s report and stated the following: “As much as the municipality has retained the same status as the previous financial year, this steadiness is evidence that recommendations by the auditor general to put our house in order were given the serious attention hence there has been no relapse.”

The attained status is also attributed to the culture of a shared responsibility by political and administrative leadership together with staff members.

“This audit outcome will serve as motivation to various structures of the service delivery hierarchy of the municipality, to further accelerate their efforts towards achieving improved financial bill of health moving forward,” she added.

“On behalf of council, I thank management, staff members and the audit committee for their commitment towards ensuring compliance to the auditor general’s recommendations.”

It was also mentioned that the municipality is commited to working towards addressing the issues raised by the auditor general.
