Two men arrested for illegal firearms in Ezingolweni

The matter was postponed for further investigation.

In an attempt to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms in the Ugu District, members of the District Operational Command centre, led by Colonel Dalton Lukhozi, have conducted a series of search operations recently.

So far it has led to two arrests.

A man (43) was searched in his VW Polo in Thonjeni, Ezinqoleni on February 7. It resulted in the recovery of a shotgun and six live rounds of ammunition. He was promptly placed under arrest.

In a separate incident, the residence of a 74-year-old man was also searched and police discovered at least 50 rounds of high calibre ammunition, 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 45 rounds for an automatic firearm.

The pensioner was also arrested for illegal possession of firearm, negligent handling of a firearm and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

The two made a court appearance in the Ezinqoleni Magistrate’s Court, and the matter was postponed for further investigation.

Ugu District Vispol Commander Brigadier Anton Kapp was pleased with the recovery and arrests and remains determined to increase the pressure on people in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
