He was placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

The Port Shepstone based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team arrested a 24-year-old man for dealing in endangered plants without a permit, on Tuesday this week.

Members seized 45 cycad plants and the man is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.

The members received information about the man who was believed to be unlawfully trading in cycad plants.

Police spokesman said Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said an undercover operation was conducted at Lamontville township and the man was caught red-handed selling the plants.
