Tekara Ramdhun is top matric in Ugu District

The top four learners in Ugu District will pursue careers in medicine and Jerusha Nagan who placed fifth will study towards BSc: Physics.

Port Shepstone Secondary learner, Tekara Ramdhun is Ugu District’s top achiever in the 2022 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

Nonduduzo Ndlovu from Port Shepstone High placed second, Mini Khanya from Gamalakhe Commercial High third, Thubelihle Nhlumayo from Nombuso High fourth and Jerusha Nagan from Umzinto Secondary came fifth.

Tekara achieved seven As and said the reality of her being the top learner in the district has not sunk in as yet.

She will study medicine at the University of Cape Town (UCT). “My goal is to finish my studies, come back to Ugu and give back to my parents and community.”

Tekara said it took hard work and dedication to be one of the top learners in the country.
The 18-year-old was also invited to the national NSC results awards ceremony hosted by the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga in Pretoria last Thursday.

“It all surreal, but exciting “said Tekara. She thanks her teachers and parents for supporting her.

Her mother, Rajinee said Tekara has been a consistent and hard worker. “As her parents, we are overwhelmed by her achievement. Honestly, her father and I work seven days a week and she did this all by herself. She has made us proud.”
Another achievement was passing her driver’s licence test this week.

Port Shepstone High’s Nonduduzo Ndlovu achieved seven As with an additional distinction in Add Maths which is part of the IEB syllabus.
“I am shocked that I placed second. It took a lot of hard work, working to a schedule and support from my parents and family.
“I always wanted to work hard for myself and my family, and this is my first step. I will be studying medicine and I have been accepted at University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Wits, and UCT but I haven’t decided which university I will attend,” she said.

Port Shepstone High’s Nonduduzo Ndlovu came second in the district.

Gamalakhe Commercial High’s, Khanya Mini also got seven As and will be pursuing a career in medicine, specialising in paediatrics.
She is uncertain where she will be studying ,but has a choice between Wits and UKZN.
” I am happy that I achieved what I aimed to achieve. It all came from being committed, setting goals and listening to my educators,”Khanya added.

Gamalakhe Commercial High’s top achiever, Khanya Mini placed third.

Thubelihle Nhlumayo from Nombuso High in KwaNzimakwe said he is glad that his hard work has paid off. Nhlumayo achieved seven As and is also going into the medical field at UCT.
He said the support of his grandmother, Thokozile Nhlumayo propelled him towards his outstanding achievement.
“I thank my gran and my educators for pushing me to go the extra mile,” he said.

Thubelihle Nhlumayo from Nombuso High School placed in fourth.

Jerusha Nagan of Umzinto Secondary said she feels special. “It’s nice to be finally recognised for my hard work.”
She achieved several distinctions and will be studying towards a BSc: Physics either at Wits or UCT.
“I had to focus on doing what I love, Maths and Physics. I’m grateful that my marks in my other subjects were also excellent,” she added.
The top achievers said they are looking forward to the year ahead.
