Woman stuck in lift for 40 minutes at Shelly Beach complex

It is unclear if the lift stopped working due to loadshedding, or just before it began.

An elderly woman on crutches was stuck in a lift for about 40 minutes at a complex in Shelly Beach at about 11:00 today.

With temperatures reaching 28 degrees by midday, the alarm was raised about the woman’s situation.

Chantell Botha of KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service said they responded to the scene, along with Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue services who opened the lift using specialised tools.

“The woman was assessed but did not require hospitalisation,” she confirmed.

It is unclear if the lift stopped working due to loadshedding, or just before it began.
