Fresh hope for Margate Olympic Pool

Light at the end of the tunnel for Margate's iconic Olympic pool.

Some excellent news is that work on Margate‘s Olympic Pool is on track. The pool has been shut since last year’s April floods.

Bathers, and those who use the large pool to exercise, are now patiently waiting for its doors to open.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s spokesman Simon April confirmed that the municipality has appointed a contractor to fix the pool.

“We had planned that the work be completed before the festive season, however the inclement weather dictated otherwise. The work is currently continuing,” he said.

Stephen Herbst of Tidy Towns said the pool is getting a new and updated filtration system fitted, which has been required for some 10 years now.

“Awesome to see it happening, the community can finally enjoy the pool. Thanks to Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, especially Gareth Tennant, for his amazing efforts over the years,” said Herbst.

“Tennant and his team from RNM went above and beyond over the festive period to ensure the pool was kept blue and decent (and not swamp-like) for the holidaymakers. A little more patience and the pool will be perfect. The system will be good to go for the next 10 to 15 years, like the previous system.”
