Equipment donation to help businesses grow

Items distributed include fridges, deep freezers, gas stoves, pots, ice makers, and more.

The Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), Small Enterprise Finance Agency (Sefa) and Ugu district municipality handed over business equipment to people living with disabilities at the Ugu Sport and Leisure Centre recently.

Fridges, deep freezers, gas stoves, pots, ice makers and other items were given to the disabled, to help them grow their businesses.

Handing over catering equipment to Zikhona Ngwane (second, from left) are Cllr Nozipho Caluza, Cllr Busisiwe Machi and Thembinkosi Kunene from Seda.

Thembinkosi Kunene from Seda explained that they also assist small businesses by providing funding from R500 to R10 000 per business. “The items handed over, I hope these will help to grow your businesses.”

Cllr Busisiwe Machi from Ugu said a system will be put in place to monitor the recipients, to ensure they are using the equipment appropriately, and not for personal use.

Thomasa Mazubane from Murchison received a fridge and pots for his catering business.

Chairperson of the Disability Business Chamber in Ugu, Phillip Gamede said the chamber is grateful for the support given to them.

“It is difficult for disabled people to be trusted in the business sector. People do not trust that we can run businesses and grow them, so this shows us that you believe in us.”

Nompilo Cele from Murchison received equipment for her fast food business.
