JUST IN: Lifeguards back on duty at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality swimming beaches

After some lifeguards went on strike yesterday (December 24), the municipality's leadership intervened to resolve the issue.

The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) can confirm that all of its swimming beaches are now open, with lifeguards services restored.
Lifeguards had apparently ‘downed tools’ after not being paid for days in August and in September. They furthermore told the Herald that they had not received their “Christmas money”.
According to municipal spokesperson, Simon April, an urgent intervention by the leadership and senior management of RNM led to yesterday’s (December 24) unfortunate and unprecedented incident being mitigated.
“As RNM, we continue engaging with the service providers to ensure that the incident that led to some of their employees going on strike is not repeated,” he said.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that happened on December 24, our commitment is to deliver on all our mandate to the community of RNM and holidaymakers on our shores.”
