Accolades for darts players

Port Shepstone and District Darts Association encourages new and old darters to join in the 2023 season.

The Port Shepstone and District Darts Association ( PSDDA) held its 43rd awards banquet at the White City hall recently.

Diversity, celebration and awards were the order of the evening as players who had achieved exceptional results in the various leagues and tournaments during the year were awarded.

The guest speaker was one of the founding members and darts legend Ranjith Singh and his wife Sandy who said they are proud of the progress the association has made since its inception in 1977.

Pravin ‘Fire’ Sewraj is the highest achiever for the 2022 season, he scored ten 180s and an incredible 401 nine-dart close.

Singh was a member of the PSDDA from 1977 until 2019.

He said his highlights as a member of PSDDA was winning the tournament in 2010.

“Despite some challenges along the way, I congratulate the current PSDDA executive leadership for doing a sterling job. Skills have improved over the years and I encourage players to continue working together as teams, stay competitive, to be calculative and to be responsible for one another,” Singh added

He said that members look forward to the banquet and congratulated players being awarded for their achievements.

He also assured that he would return to playing darts next year.

PSDDA chairperson, Bupendra Prakash said the association is grateful to members, sponsors and their families for the smooth running of the 20222 playing season.

Jumperz Darts Club took first place in three out of the four leagues this year and second place in the other league. They are (back, from left) Triston James Govender, Rishi Rampersad, Shan Govender, Rajesh Ramsunder, Denzil Naidoo and Jaral Boodhram, with Victor Job, Jewan Bowla, Indrani Sewraj and Pravin Sewraj in front.

“We welcome new and old darters to join in the 2023 season, and we look forward to many more happy, exciting and competitive years of darting.

Status Darts Club 21, sponsored by Status Panelbeaters & Spray Painters took third place in the Status Panelbeaters 4-a-side league. Pregasen Sholayan (on behalf of sponsor), Bupendra Prakash, Anthony Moodley, Johnny Naidoo, Clive Hurn and Rakesh Ramdhun.

“We thank our sponsors and look forward to working with them in the new year. The AGM date will be announced soon,” Prakash added.
