Faulty transformer leaves Margate and surrounding areas in the dark

The good news is that Eskom has assured that power will be restored today (Tuesday).

A transformer struck by lightning last Friday night (December 2) has left Margate and surrounding areas in the dark.

However, Eskom has reassured that power is expected to be restored to the area by today (Tuesday).

The transformer failed all the tests that were conducted last Saturday.

“A new transformer has been ordered with power estimated to be restored by Tuesday.”

Eskom apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured customers the fault was being attended to with urgency.

“Customers are urged to stay clear of any damaged infrastructure and to report faults. Electricity users are urged to treat all electrical lines, sockets, and appliances as live and dangerous.”

The loss of power has been a major inconvenience to guest house and shop owners and residents.

Ugu District Municipality said Margate Ext 3 and Nositha have been without water due to transformer blowing up, and this has been the main cause of water disruptions in the area.

The municipality expects water to be restored by today after Eskom has carried out their work .
