Trio arrested in Mbizana after attempting to kidnap man worth an alleged R30-million

Police are on the trail of two more suspects who are still at large.

Three kidnapping suspects, aged between 21 and 36, were arrested on charges of kidnapping in Mbizana during the early hours of November 10.

The Hawks’ Provincial Kidnapping Task Team arrested the group in a joint operation with Mbizana Saps.

It is alleged, the 36-year-old victim was kidnapped from his home at Msawana Ngcobo Location and taken to Mbizana on September 13, 2022 at about 21:00.

It is further alleged that the suspects had information that the victim received R30-million from the Road Accident Fund (RAF).

Captain Yolisa Mgolodela of the Hawks, said the men reportedly forced the victim to withdraw cash from his account so as to view the balance.

The balance was far too little from what they expected. To get himself off the hook, the man told the kidnappers that he had an investment.

One kidnapper is reported to have accompanied the victim into Old Mutual.

Captain Mgolodela said the man managed to alert the consultant indicating his kidnapped position.

There was commotion in Old Mutual and the kidnapper panicked and left.

When the police arrived, there was not a single trace of the trio.

Fortunately, the victim could identify the man who brought him to Old Mutual.

An investigation was conducted which led to the arrest of the kidnappers, and the white Toyota Etios that was used in the commission of crime, was seized.

The trio will appear in court soon.

The arrest of two more suspects who are at large, are imminent.
