Lights back on for KwaNositha residents

Eskom replaced several burnt out fuses and restored electricity to residents who have been paying for it all along.

After being left in the dark for six weeks, electricity was restored to residents of KwaNositha, Ray Nkonyeni Ward 27, EmaGogogweni last week.

It had been a long road, as they had held meetings with Eskom management, to resorting to buying a transformer and informing the media of their challenges, however all options had failed.

Community representative Dawood Akoon said he had visited an Eskom manager’s office several times, and collected evidence to prove that the people who were affected were buying electricity vouchers.

“On October 17, some community members joined me and we drove to the Marina offices where we met with a manager and pleaded with her to send a team out to do an assessment.

“She agreed, and on the same day we saw a fleet driving in. A few hours later we were informed that the fault was several fuses which had burnt out. The fuses were replaced and our lights are back on, ” Akoon explained.

He said the community is overjoyed and has not had any problems since.

“We thank Eskom manager, Nonhlanhla Ngcobo and Sonny Mqadi and his team for reconnecting our electricity, “Akoon added.
He also thanked the media for its role in escalating the matter to Eskom’s head office.
