Three dead, including child, in South Coast accidents

Paramedics had another busy weekend at crash scenes.

It’s been another weekend of horrific crashes on South Coast roads.

SATURDAY, October 15 – N2 Umzumbe at about 10pm

Two adults and a child died on the N2 in the Umzumbe area. Chantell Botha of KwaZulu Private Ambulance said that when emergency services arrived they found that a truck and car had been involved in a collision, resulting in the truck leaving the road and crashing down an embankment.

Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that a young child had sustained critical injuries. The child was treated on scene, but died from the injuries, despite the efforts of advanced life support paramedics. The two adults died on the scene before emergency services arrived.

“Another person sustained serious injuries and was trapped in the truck. Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s Fire and Rescue services, together with paramedics, worked for over an hour to free the patient, using specialised rescue equipment,” said Botha. This person was then transported to hospital.

FRIDAY, October 15 – Marine Drive in Uvongo at about 7.30pm.

Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 reported that two cars and a bakkie were involved in a collision.
