IFP wins uMuziwabantu Ward 11 by-election

The IFP garnered 1149 votes for its candidate Khanyisile Mbotho, while Thulani Ncane's SUN obtained 507. The ANC could only manage 335 votes.

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) won the uMuziwabantu Municipality Ward 11 by-election by a landslide yesterday (October 12).

The by-election was required as Thulani Mondli Ncane, the municipality’s former deputy mayor and councillor for Al Jamah, resigned to form his own party – Sizwe Ummah Nation (SUN), which also contested the by-election.

The IFP garnered 1149 votes for its candidate Khanyisile Mbotho, while Ncane’s SUN obtained 507. The ANC could only manage 335 votes.

All the other contesting parties were way below 100 votes, namely the EFF, Al Jamah, ATM and ABC.

The provincial executive committee of the IFP said it was humbled by the convincing victory.

Chairman Thami Ntuli, said the IFP thanked the people of Ward 11 for trusting the party with their votes in what was a crucial and hotly contested by-election.

“These results confirm that the people of KwaZulu–Natal are hungry for an IFP-led government, as they yet again rejected an arrogant leadership from governing in municipalities and the province,” he said.

“This resounding victory in Ward 11 of uMuziwabantu reflects the confidence that the people of KZN have in the IFP. They have consistently expressed that they are tired of arrogance and unethical leadership.”

The EFF campaigns for its candidate, Bernard Mpande.

The IFP has now won recent by-elections in uMhlathuze, as well as Mthonjaneni, uMvoti, uMfolozi and now uMuziwabantu.

Ntuli said the party commits itself to continue to working hard, and to deliver the best service to the people of Ward 11 of uMuziwabantu, as well as the entire province of KZN.
