Singer makes top 20 at talent contest

Port Shepstone singer excels at singing contest.

Renaye Naidoo (39) of Port Shepstone recently made it into the Top 20 at the Galleria Got Talent 2022.

The single mother of 16-year-old Keziah-Erin says her beautiful daughter is her biggest cheerleader.

At the first audition, there was more than 700 entries, and Renaye was called back with 79 others for a second audition.

She was selected for the semi-finals (Top 40) after she gave a ‘whole new meaning’ to her mother’s (Dawn Naidoo) favourite song, Purple Rain by Prince.

Renaye then got called back for the finals, which consisted of the Top 20.

Phindile Dube was recently announced as the winner of the competition.

The talented woman, humbly says she is not the best singer around, but she love what she does. “I don’t sing for self gain. Instead, I have been singing to bring joy and healing to others and that’s what makes a difference to me.”

Renaye Naidoo recently participated in a song contest in Amanzimtoti.

It’s not the first time, Renaye has made her family and community proud.

In 2001, she won Miss Durban Oval International and then entered Miss India South Africa, where she ranked in the Top 16 and represented Port Shepstone in the grand finale at the Durban Playhouse. She spent a week with actress, Kajal Maharaj from Imbewu and businesswoman and actress Sorisha Naidoo, who won the title.

Renaye has been singing since a young girl and has fond memories of growing up in a family who loves music.

She was given an opportunity to sing in church from the age of six, and from that day onwards, never missed an opportunity.

At the age of 10, she shared the stage with the legendary rock artist Steve Fataar.

Today, in her spare time, she emcees events and is the female vocalist for the band, Kaleidoscope.

Her advice to those following dreams, is never give up, no matter how painful or hard your journey is. “Always remember that there is someone out there watching you and believing in you. Don’t pay attention to those who tell you, you can’t do it or can’t achieve it. Make their limitations your strength.”

Renaye gives special thanks to talented musician Theo Pillay, her family, friends and the South Coast community for their incredible support.
